Astam Earrings

Joi T. Arcand is an artist from Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, located on Treaty 6 Territory. She currently resides in Ottawa, Ontario.

These earrings feature the word astam, which means “Come here!” in nêhiyawêwin (Plains Cree).

Her work aims to spark dialogue about Indigenous culture, history, and futures, and to contribute to the revitalization of the Cree language.
